Slow Sundays: The Art of Unwinding

by Shabnam Monzavi

There’s something about Sundays that just feels different. The pace is slower, the to-do list feels less urgent, and there’s this quiet invitation to pause before the inevitably chaotic week ahead.

For entrepreneurs—especially those of us running small businesses—slowing down can feel like a foreign concept. There’s always something to do, an idea to chase, or a problem to solve. But I’ve learned that rest isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.

Why Slow Sundays Matter

As a business owner, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that more work equals more success. But over time, I’ve realized that my best ideas, biggest breakthroughs, and most productive weeks come when I give myself permission to pause.

Sundays give us that space. They remind us to:
Recharge – You can’t pour from an empty cup. Taking time to rest actually fuels creativity and motivation.
Reflect – A slow Sunday is the perfect time to look back at the past week, celebrate wins, and set intentions for what’s ahead.
Reconnect – Whether it’s with family, friends, or even yourself, Sundays are a chance to nurture relationships and soak in the moments that matter. Even if that means chasing down a pants-less toddler.

Creating a Sunday Ritual

For me, a slow Sunday starts with a cozy candle burning, a warm cup of coffee in hand, and a moment to just be. No pressure, no hustle—just a little time to reset.

Want to create your own Sunday ritual? Here are a few ideas:
✨ Light a candle and journal for a few minutes—write out gratitude, reflections, or just a brain dump.
✨ Unplug from work (yes, even emails!) and enjoy a book, a walk, or a slow morning.
✨ Set a simple intention for the week ahead—one word, one goal, or just a reminder to breathe.

At Market Candle Company, we believe in creating moments—big and small—that bring comfort, calm, and connection. So here’s your reminder: Take the slow Sunday. Light the candle. Give yourself a little space to recharge.

You—and your business—deserve it.

How do you like to unwind on Sundays? We hope you join us in a slower pace this weekend 🖤
